VINCI Innovation Awards 2009

The Final of the 2009 VINCI Innovation Awards took place in Paris on 5th January.
The competition takes place every two years and is open to all employees, the aim being to showcase the Group's creative potential by recognising and rewarding innovation.

The 2009 competition had a record number of entries. 1,438 projects were submitted by more than 3,500 employees, 33% more than in the preceding competition.

There are two stages to the competition: regional and group-wide. At the regional level, Michelle Saint and Fred Garner received an award in the category of Sustainable Development for the Equality, Inclusion and Diversity Programme on the DLR Project. This initiative benefited local communities in terms of employment, education and training opportunities.

The overall winner of the competition went to an innovation called Pirandello, a system for modelling urban development. Using Pirandello, the financial and economic viability of a development is able to be assessed, thereby providing an invaluable tool in the decision making process.
